Over the past decade, Ms. Plewes has focused on developing family services and warrior care programs for US Special Operations Forces. After years of serving on the boards of various foundations, in 2017, she became the founding Chairperson of the SOF Support Foundation. It provides an array of specialized programs and educates the public on the United States Special Operations Command and its role in our national defense.
After witnessing the endless cycles of deployments and their impact on US service members and their families, she decided to explore the fundamental causes of conflicts around the world. An experienced international traveler, she set out to personally visit conflict zones in Europe, Africa, the Pacific and the Middle East.
She regularly interfaces with heads of state, ambassadors, high level military, political, business, and civil society leaders. Ms. Plewes has engaged with both NGO’s and US Commissions throughout the Middle East and worked on numerous issues including transnational crime, organ and human trafficking, freedom of religion, civil military operations, and the building of effective local governance. She has visited some of the world’s most infamous refugee camps including Camp Za’atari in Jordan and al-Hol in Syria.
In Africa, she has observed regions with the most effective reconciliation programs and has spent time with the senior leadership of Rwanda whose rapprochement programs helped heal the nation after one of the worst genocides in modern times. In 2022, within days of the Russian invasion to Ukraine, Ms. Plewes visited the country and engaged in the process of addressing the humanitarian and logistical problems posed in moving aid into the country. Most recently, given the rising tensions in the Pacific she met with key Indonesia military leaders, politicians, and private sector businesses to explore the challenges US Policy faces in the region.
Ms. Plewes has on the ground experience in conflict zones, particularly in the areas of stability operations and the establishment of legitimate local governance. Her communications skill set allows her to operate at all levels of government and she is equally effective in both presidential and village leader settings.
She regularly briefs interested parties on her findings. She is a prolific writer and blogger and her articles have appeared in Inside Sources, Real Clear Defense, The Defense Post, and SOFREP, among others.
Ms. Plewes is a member of the Defense Orientation Conference Association (DOCA) and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA).
